Excessive Celebration - Doug Bryan

Football players naturally want to celebrate when they score, but if they do, they could be in danger of getting flagged for "excessive celebration."  As Christians, we have more to celebrate than anyone. But, when was the last time that you were in danger of being flagged for excessive celebration inyour spiritual walk?

It’s not always a player’s talent or skill level or effort on the field that determines his significance to the team, but rather the choices, commitment, and work ethic off the field that determines his value. The same is true for God followers.  While regular worship is important, that is only part of our spiritual walk.  What we do outside the building is just as important as we strive to impact our friends, our families, and those in our communities.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct

October 1, 2017

(We apologize for the technical difficulties we experienced during this recording.)  All of us could be flagged at times for unsportsmanlike conduct. We may blow our top, come unglued, fly off the handle, or just explode. However, James says that we should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.  The purpose is so that we might live the righteouslife that God desires and to be positive examples for Him.

Illegal Use of Hands

The commands of God are more than holy suggestions.  God expects us to live a certain way, to follow the laws that He has provided, and to become more and more like His Son.  However, at times we fall short of God's expectations and may get flagged for not living up to God's standard.

Putting on the Jersey

Putting on the Jersey - Clayton Hershner

Putting on a jersey identifies you with a team, but that is just the beginning.  As with any team, there is
a lot of practice and effort that is expected.  In a similar way, when we become a Christian we put on Christ.  However, that is not the end of the journey, but only the beginning.  Are you living up to God's expectations for your life?

While watching any football game it's easy to be an armchair quarterback and criticize the coaches and players on the field.  However, life on the field is different.  Dedication off the field, combined with effort and energy on the field, can determine a win or a loss.  The same is true in the Christian life.  Dedication to the Christian walk, combined with the work of the Holy Spirit, can determine our impact in our community.  When the Holy Spirit is allowed to thrive in the life of the Christian, then there will be evidence of His presence as spiritual fruit is produced.  This series takes a look at these characteristics or fruit that should be evident in the life of every Christian.
